A1: Sure, MPO cables are built to handle faster internet speeds, like 400G and beyond. To hit 400G speeds, here are some ways MPO cables can be set up:
• By using 8 single-mode fibers, split into 4 pairs, each running at 100G.
• Through a technique called Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM, including dwdm and cwdm), allowing 400G over just 2 fibers.
Note:
Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) are two ways to boost the amount of information fiber optic networks can carry.
• For multimode fibers, number of channels (not wavelength channels) should take into consideration, 16 fibers can be used, with 4 fibers per 100G channel, using OM4 or OM5 fiber types.
Think of a fiber cable as a highway: lanes are wavelength channels, channel spacing is lane dividers. Optical signals are cars with varying speeds, bit rates up to hundreds of gigabits/second.
